چکیده

In this special issue of Physica A in memory Professor Dietrich Stauffer, I first recall my impression on him while being his postdoc for a year at HLRZ. the following scientific part, discuss theory soft phonons with quartic nonlinear interactions. This is applied to cubic crystal BaTiO$_3$ phase transition from para- ferroelectric phase.

Phase Transitions in Soft Topographic

We have developed an algorithm (STVQ) for the optimization of neighborhood preserving maps by applying deterministic anneal-ing to an energy function for topographic vector quantization. The com-binatorial optimization problem is solved by introducing temperature dependent fuzzy assignments of data points to cluster centers and applying an EM-type algorithm at each temperature while annealing. ...

Kinetics of the field induced commensurate to ferro-electric phase transition in thiourea

The paper examines the kinetics of the electric field induced, first-order transition from the commensurate to the ferro-electric phase in thiourea (SC(NH2)2) at 170 K. The satellite reflection from the modulated phase, locked in with a wave vector q = 1/9b∗ disappears when the phase transition is induced by a static electric field Ec along the a-axis. In order to study the kinetics of the phas...

Quantum phase transitions in one-dimensional electron-phonon systems

Low dimensional strongly coupled electron-phonon systems like MX-chains, ferroelectric perovskites, conjugated polymers, or organic charge transfer salts exhibit a remarkable wide range of strengths of competing forces and, as a result, physical properties [1]. Most notably quasi one-dimensional (1D) materials are very susceptible to structural distortions driven by the electron-phonon (EP) int...

Quantum Phase Transitions and Collective Modes in d-wave Superconductors

Fluctuations near second-order quantum phase transitions in d-wave superconductors can cause strong damping of fermionic excitations, as observed in photoemission experiments. The damping of the gapless nodal quasiparticles can arise naturally in the quantum-critical region of a transition with an additional spin-singlet, zero momentum order parameter; we argue that the transition to a dx2−y2 +...

Acknowledgements First, I would like to express my gratitude to my promoter prof. K. Neyts, for giving me the privilege to conduct this PhD work under his supervision. Throughout this research, he provided me with continuous scientific help, valuable advice and lots of new ideas, which inspired and motivated my work. His great talent to explain things clearly and simply helped me to understand ...
